The drive to net zero is a global, national and sector challenge that is increasingly the focus of government
policy initiatives and strategy for business and individual action. This series of papers from the IOR looks at the options and opportunities for various sectors within the refrigeration, air conditioning and heating sector.

The papers included provide insights on a sector-by-sector basis of our readiness to meet the UK’s commitment
to achieve Net Zero by 2050, identifying some of the key areas where progress is needed and which initiatives
and tools are in place to help the industry achieve this important deadline.

Included are
• Industrial refrigeration
• Commercial refrigeration
• Air conditioning
• Heat pumps
• Transport refrigeration

This is part of the IOR’s “Beyond Refrigeration – The Journey to Net Zero” initiative

The IOR Beyond Refrigeration – journey to net zero initiative is inviting members to comment on two draft Policy Papers

These papers seek to identify the areas for national policies, legislation and incentives that would help users of cooling transition to net zero.   The first two areas for recommended policy development are currently available for consultation  until 23rd November.

·      The ambition for “Heating and Cooling” is summarised here, together with suggested policy options to support change by purchasers and users of heating and cooling.

·      The ambition for “Developing the best people and skills” is expanded upon, together with suggested policy options to support skills development for those involved in using, designing, installing, servicing, maintaining, commissioning and decommissioning activities and to have a lasting impact on achieving net zero through investment in people and skills.
