Parliamentary Environmental Audit Committee inquiry

The Environmental Audit Committee is undertaking a short inquiry into Heat resilience and sustainable cooling. It will look at the relationship between heat and health; examine the adequacy of current Government policies in relation to current and future need for cooling; and consider what measures could be taken to increase adaptation and resilience to rising temperatures. ENERGY BILL SUPPORT SCHEME UPDATE

The government set out its plans for energy bill support for businesses beyond March 2023. The new ‘Energy Bills Discount Scheme’ represents a considerable reduction from the current scheme in the financial value of the support available to businesses from April, although some sectors will receive more support than others.
This briefing sets out the detail of the future scheme and what it means for cold chain businesses, as well as some key questions which still need to be answered (largely around eligibility for the enhanced support package) and how the CCF will work on behalf of members in the coming months on this issue.
Consumer Inflation and the Cold Chain

The latest inflation figures for the United Kingdom were released on 15th December 2021. They show that the Consumer Price Index (CPI) has hit 5.1% (year on year to November 2021), its highest level for more that 10 years. Minimising SPS Friction in EU Trade

Food and feed trade associations, hauliers, farmers and veterinary and environmental health professional organisations have joined together in to propose in a new report an urgent new veterinary agreement and streamlined processes to resolve crippling restrictions to exports to the EU, Britain’s largest trading partner. Published June 2021.
Since 1 January 2021 British exporters have faced often insurmountable difficulties with post-Brexit red tape and disruption at the UK-EU border. The new relationship between Great Britain and the EU has meant that British businesses now face a plethora of new requirements imposed on exports to the EU. These include international sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) controls which significantly add to bureaucracy, cost and time. Read the full report here

Global Cold Chain Alliance – COVID-19 Cold Chain Business Impact Survey
The Global Cold Chain Alliance (GCCA) conducted a survey between April 28th and May 11th 2020 to understand the impacts
of the pandemic on the cold chain. They had 170 responses from across the world, including the UK. Respondents
were predominantly from cold storage operations, however responses from transportation companies and
suppliers were also received. This note summarises the key findings from European businesses.
