Carrier Transicold Vector® eCool Wins Innovation Award from UK Noise Abatement Society

Cold Chain Federation member Carrier Transicold has won the John Connell Innovation Award from the Noise Abatement Society (NAS), for its pioneering Carrier Transicold Vector® eCool all-electric, fully autonomous engineless refrigerated trailer solution. The prestigious awards recognise solutions that reduce the negative impact of unnecessary noise for the public benefit and were announced at a special ceremony in London’s Palace of Westminster. Carrier Transicold is a part of Carrier Global Corporation (NYSE: CARR), the leading global provider of healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent building and cold chain solutions.

“Reducing operating noise and cutting emissions has always been a priority for the business,” said Scott Dargan, Managing Director UK and North Europe, Carrier Transicold. “The Vector eCool represents the natural next step in our quiet evolution. It will pave the way for a step-change in urban deliveries, taking the noise of refrigeration equipment out of the equation.”

The Vector eCool combines Carrier Transicold’s E-Drive™ all-electric technology with a new cutting-edge energy recovery and storage system. This converts kinetic energy generated by the trailer axle and brakes into electricity, which is then stored in a battery pack that powers the refrigeration unit. Carrier Transicold’s E-Drive technology means there is no need for the mechanical belts and drive train seen in competitor systems, and with no engine required the noise of diesel power has been replaced by an electrical hum. The unit is certified as operating below the PIEK 60 dB(A) standard.

“The NAS welcomes the innovation of a completely quiet, zero emission refrigeration system,” said Gloria Elliott, Chief Executive, NAS. “It will revolutionise the possibility of 24/7 delivery in city centres without causing disturbance.”

As the first UK retailer to officially introduce the Vector eCool to its delivery fleet in July of this year, Sainsbury’s joined Carrier Transicold at the ceremony to share in the success, highlighting its own commitment to improved sustainability.

Now, in a clear signal that the future of temperature-controlled trailer transport has arrived, Carrier Transicold is delivering new Vector eCool systems into a wide range of customer operations across the UK and Europe.

Energy efficient solutions such as the Vector eCool, support Carrier’s aim to reduce its customers’ carbon footprint by one gigaton, part of its 2030 Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Goals. The Carrier Transicold Vector eCool is a solution offered through Carrier’s Healthy, Safe, Sustainable Cold Chain Programme to preserve and protect the supply of food, medicine and vaccines.
