Q. Why is it important to be a part of the Cold Chain Federation?
Our Warehouse Management Software (WMS) and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software manages the storage, handling, and labelling requirements of many temperature-controlled products. We need to keep ourselves abreast of the industry trends and regulatory issues. Being an active member of the Cold Chain Federation allows us to do this and is a great platform for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and indeed networking among industry stakeholders. Businesses like ours can benefit from sharing experiences, insights, and best practices with other members of the federation. This exchange of information can help improve our product offerings and in doing so improves operational efficiency, optimises processes, and addresses common challenges in the cold chain industry.
Q. What are Principal Logistic’s aspirations for the industry?
The cold chain contributes to the economy in the UK and Ireland by enabling the efficient delivery of food and medical supplies as well as employing significant numbers of people. Cold store operators need to maintain competitive advantage by reducing operational costs, adding new value-added services, improving productivity, introducing innovation, and enhancing customer service. These and other benefits can be maximised by deploying technologies such as WMS and ERP to oversee daily operations of cold stores and the wider supply chain. Recent wars and the Covid pandemic have also shown the cold chain can be disrupted by unforeseen events. Cold store operators can build resilience and flexibility into their operations to help mitigate against events like these by deploying robust processes, supported by technologies such and WMS and ERP.
