CCF in the House of Lords

Your Federation continues to ramp up our lobbying of Government on the challenges impacting the cold chain. This week I was part of a delegation from the cooling sector invited to the House of Lords for a discussion hosted by Policy Connect and Innovate UK on challenges relating to decarbonisation, regulation and skills in the presence of Bill Esterson MP (Chair of the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee and the APPG for Manufacturing) and the influential Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea.

As one of the panellists, I focused contributions on the need for joined up policy on grid connections, energy management and renewables to maximise the potential of cold stores to support clean energy and decarbonisation objectives as well as the critical role of cold chain to food and pharmaceutical resilience. Also discussed were funding challenges such as the importance of the Industrial Energy Transformation Fund to CCF members and the continued failure to come through with support for zero emission transport refrigeration unit deployment following the removal of red diesel subsidies.

The speakers from different areas of the cooling sector really came together as a collective to deliver a powerful and unified message to the parliamentarians present on the positive ways our sector can support the Government’s objectives, delivered with clear messaging on the policy and other barriers preventing us from realising the full potential of what the cooling sector can deliver. It is hoped the opportunities discussed could lead to a Select Committee enquiry on heating and cooling in the near future.
