Case Study: Gate Gourmet Optimises Cold Chain Operations with Temperature-Controlled Facility Upgrade
Challenge: Gate Gourmet, a leading provider of airline catering services, needed to upgrade its temperature-controlled facilities at DC5 Prologis Park to ensure optimal food safety and product quality.
Solution: Gate Gourmet partnered with Cold Clad, a specialist in cold chain construction, to design and build a state-of-the-art temperature-controlled environment.
Scope of Work:
- Internal Whitewall: Install 903 square meters of Kingspan IPN Quadcore KS1100CS panels for chiller and office wall sections, with varying thicknesses (100mm and 125mm) for optimal insulation.
- Ceiling Panels: Installation of 501 square meters of Kingspan ceiling panels (150mm thickness) in chiller and office areas for additional temperature control.
- Doors & Windows: Integration of a mix of Portiso doors (sliding, hinged, and non-insulated) for efficient access and personnel movement while maintaining temperature control. Additionally, office windows were installed for natural light.
- Wall & Corner Protection: Installation of galvanized steel bump rails, stainless steel bollards, EPDM rubber bump rails, and rubber corner protectors to safeguard the facility and equipment from potential damage.
- Flooring: Installation of a 9mm thick resin floor (412 square meters) for a durable and easy-to-clean surface.
Partners:
- Main Contractor: Faircloth Construction Ltd.
- Refrigeration: Ryan-Jayberg Ltd.
“It was absolute pleasure to work with the fantastic teams at Faircloth Construction and Gate Gourmet. Allowing Cold Clad to install the new cold room and offices, including the lighting and refrigeration systems. We look forward to working with them both again on future projects.” Temperature Controlled Director, Richard Tassinari
