Cold Chain Manifesto

In this general election year, the Cold Chain Federation has been examining afresh how government policy can best support the ambitions of the UK cold chain. Major policy shifts over the past few years are substantially affecting how temperature-controlled logistics businesses operate, and many pre-Covid, pre-energy crisis, pre-Brexit policies are in dire need of revision to meet the changed needs of today and tomorrow. Parliamentary Environmental Audit Committee inquiry

The Environmental Audit Committee is undertaking a short inquiry into Heat resilience and sustainable cooling. It will look at the relationship between heat and health; examine the adequacy of current Government policies in relation to current and future need for cooling; and consider what measures could be taken to increase adaptation and resilience to rising temperatures. You can read our full submission below.

Climate Change Agreement Consultation

The Climate Change Agreement (CCA) is due to come to an end in early 2025. However, in the Spring Budget 2023 the Government announced a two-year extension until at least 2027.  Read our briefing on the current consultation and next steps.

Standard Industry Classification Briefing

Standard Industry Classification (SIC) codes are used by Companies House to categorise businesses, but you might not realise that what code you are registered under can determine whether or not you can access funding for support for things like energy costs and upgrade projects. The CCF have produced a special briefing to explain what a SIC code is, what funding it could unlock and how to review and update your listing. Read it below.

ENERGY BILL SUPPORT SCHEME UPDATE

The government set out its plans for energy bill support for businesses beyond March 2023. The new ‘Energy Bills Discount Scheme’ represents a considerable reduction from the current scheme in the financial value of the support available to businesses from April, although some sectors will receive more support than others.

This briefing sets out the detail of the future scheme and what it means for cold chain businesses, as well as some key questions which still need to be answered (largely around eligibility for the enhanced support package) and how the CCF will work on behalf of members in the coming months on this issue.
